My Approach
The approach that I have to my work has evolved over the years.
In years prior, a large part of my time was spent in clinical practice with individual clients, nowadays the majority of my time is dedicated to working behind the scenes delivering the training I have created to fellow professionals, writing my upcoming books, and concentrating to the continuous development of my Fear Monster client packages.
Over time, I have realized that this way of working fits better with what it is I am trying to contribute and if I am honest with who I am. My aim has always been that my work reach as many people as is possible, and this way means that I get some way to achieving my aim.
My areas of contribution are:
- Early and/or Traumatic experiences (Child/Adult)
- The Safe and Ethical Professional Practice and Interventions with Children and Young People
- Domestic and Sexual Abuse (Child/Adult)
- Anxious and panic feelings, fears, phobias and intrusive thoughts (Child/Adult)
- Living, Death and Dying (Child/Adult)
Most, if not all of my work will be related in some way to the above subjects as this is where my unique expertise lies.
An Additional point with reference to my work with Children and Young People
The foundation of my training and my work centers around supporting adult wellbeing, however, I think it is important to refer to the work that I do, and the passion that I have, to advocate the safe and ethical practice and to improve professional responses, to children and young people.
It is important to me that I use my skill set in a way in which helps other professionals to understand children, to understand the child’s experience of the difficulty that they find themselves in, and then for them to be able to combine this knowledge with their professional skillset in such a way, that they are able to provide a more informed, safe and supportive response to the child and in contributing to a better longer-term outcome.
My passion is in helping children to have a voice. Given that the child is often unable explain their experience or to communicate their needs, I see it as my role to help them to be understood, and to get the right support to improve their future wellbeing and outcomes. It is my firm belief that prevention is always preferable to cure.
It is vitally important that children and young people are provided with the appropriate resolve at the time of their distress, leading to the sense of safety and security that is often lacking within their situations.
I believe myself to have a unique skill set that enables me to formulate and share my ideas with within multi-agency and single agency approaches to child intervention, therapeutic practice, schools and other wellbeing and social care services. I do not believe that there is anything like my training and I passionately believe in my ability to make a difference.
