Setting Up Your Private Practice – A comprehensive Guide

Private therapy practice

Are you a recently qualified or almost qualified counsellor/psychotherapist who is trying to make sense of what you may need to begin working with your clients privately?
Maybe you are a therapist who is already in private practice and you wish to review the foundation of your practice or wish to improve on what you have in place?

Then this may well be an essential and insightful course for you to consider!

Who am I and what can I offer?

I am an experienced and accredited Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor.

I draw on my experience of facilitating many thousands of clinical practice hours with adults, children and young people, as well as my experience of commissioning (setting up) therapeutic services for a number of charitable organisations.

As an experienced Clinical Supervisor, my supervision services are approved with a number of universities and colleges. I work with individual qualified and trainee practitioners, groups, schools and other social care establishments. I supervise the practice of adults, but I am also deeply passionate about supporting the ethical and informed practice of children and young people.

I believe in extensive and continuous commitment to my study and personal development. The more informed I am, the more I am able to support my clients, and to collaborate with other practitioners and services.

In my career, I have a passion for educating professionals using my unique and intuitive concepts. My intentions are always of improving/developing knowledge, strengthening professional practice, strengthening professional relationships and ultimately, safeguarding and changing the outcomes of the client in difficulty.

I believe my strength has always been my ability to use my personal insights, in a way in which I am able to interweave these into practice. These insights help to create a deeper understanding of specific difficulties in a way in which we improve our own awareness and the outcome for our clients.

I hold a particular interest in working with anxious and panic feelings, domestic and sexual abuse, early trauma and traumatic experiences, the mother/attachment would and the impact of this, existential crisis, death and dying and I have further qualifications in these areas.

What to Expect from my Courses/what is my motivation to provide this course?

My courses aim to challenge current perspectives and ask for us all to engage in a deeper understanding of the subject issue, of ourselves and the part that we play in our work. The training asks that we take accountability to overcome the challenges that lead us to improve.

All of my courses are based on subjects and their subsequent issues and challenges, that I have experienced, researched during my study, or in fact quietly observed myself over many years. I believe in sharing the knowledge I have, in order to inform, or improve our current professional systems or professional practice.

I Identify ethical and safeguarding failings within the areas that I teach. I remain absolutely passionate to play my part in empowering practitioners and services to improve their knowledge by uncovering layers they may not have considered before and reframe their approaches to their work.

The goal remains as my passion to use my knowledge to support the improvement or creation of safe and ethical provision of professional practice, that we all strive to provide to the client’s safety and outcomes.

What will this course teach me?

It often takes years to understand everything you need to build a successful and ethical private practice, and to understand how to apply the limited “real time” information you gain in training to a developing an efficient, safe and ethical day to day service.

Sadly, the appropriate knowledge is often first gained through the making of mistakes, in having ethical issues, and in not having the correct foundation already in place, which can be very stressful for the practitioner. This does not need to be the case!

I believe in our profession, but I find time and time again, a weak foundation and resulting questionable practice in place within many private practices and services.

My wish is to use my experience to support you to set up or enhance an existing practice in such a way that you are able to feel confident and knowledgeable in what you offer, as well as reducing the possibility of error or difficulty for you or your caseload.

The training will review all of the mechanics that are required for you to understand and build your practice. In addition, we will travel much deeper in our reflections where we will consider how fitting your practice will be to you.

The course will provide a hive of information, documentation and reflective content, all of which aims to prepare you practically and emotionally to offer with confidence and competence a professional and successful private practice!

The training I provide is insightful and unique. Prepare to reflect, experiment and ask questions as your journey begins.
